San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park Kids Shaped like an Art Deco ship and located near Fisherman s Wharf, the National Maritime Museum is filled with sailing, whaling, and fishing lore. Exhibits include model craft, scrimshaw, and a collection of shipwreck photographs and historic marine scenes, including an 1851 snapshot club orient of hundreds of abandoned ships, deserted en masse by crews dashing off to participate in the Gold Rush. The museum s walls are lined with finely carved, painted wooden figureheads from old windjammers.
